Scarlet Fever

Dear Readers,

On Monday I woke up with an awful sore throat.  No cough drop or honey would soothe down the pain.  I went to work anyway thinking it would get better.  To make things worse, I had a rash all over my body and I assumed it was caused to an allergy to my sunblock.  My skin reacts very easily to any kind of lotion or sunscreen so it was my regular assumption whenever I get a rash.

That Monday night I had the chills and my sore throat got worse.  I went to the doctor the next day who confirmed I had the scarlet fever which is an illness with a characteristic rash that is caused by a strep infection.    So now I am taking antibiotics to treat my strep throat.

A scarlet fever and strep throat infection is contagious but within 24 hours of taking the antibiotic I would be less of a risk to other people.  I really hope my kids won't get it.  I should have checked with the doctor right away!  Never take symptoms for granted and check with your doctors if your body is reacting differently than usual!

I am already feeling better which will come handy because I have much to do this weekend.  We went to IKEA to buy furniture in order to organize my little home!  I'll show you my new craft/doll station once it's done!  My father will also arrive on Sunday to spend his summer vacation with us so it will be very busy!

Here below is my little girl playing with a play kitchen while we were at the IKEA store.  She has a Strawberry Shortcake play kitchen at home but of course, she had to sample this one!

  1. Oh, honey, I feel ya! I had my first case of strep throat in years back in April, only it was in my sinuses, too. The antibiotics made me feel much better, but the day after my diagnosis, both girls said they had mild sore throats, so Mr. B took them in so all 3 could be tested the next morning. Yup - we all had it! Mine seemed better, but less than a week after I finished my entire bottle of Amoxicillan, the sore throat came back. I was diagnosed with an abscess, and had to have a shot and a whole other round of antibiotics. I really, really hope yours clears up with the first round! And if anyone else in your family mentions a little sore throat, or nausea, or even a weird headache, have it checked! Strep is so weird sometimes.

LOVE your little girl playing in her kitchen! Can't wait to see your craft/doll station. HUGS! xoxo

    1. Your daughter is so cute LOL!!! Mine does not mind the non-functioning sink. She does not have a sink with her play kitchen at home so she was fascinated with this one!

  4. My darling! Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry for the sickies! I didn't even know adults could get scarlet fever (#ignorant), I know they can, but I always think of it as a childhood illness because I always read about it in kid books, ha. Please take care and feel better soon! I was just at Ikea today, by the way. So cute to see your little princess playing! xoxo

    1. I didn't know scarlet fever still existed nowadays! But good thing is that modern meds will most likely prevent the bad consequences of the illness unlike back in the days when it could be lethal.
